Carolyn Mae (Peach) Matthews, 69, of Sturgis, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis following an extended illness.
She was born May 28, 1942, in Elkhart, Ind., a daughter to Wallace and Dorothy (Eggleston) Vanhook.
She lived in Sturgis for several years, coming from Coldwater, Mich. Most of her life was spent in St. Joseph County.
In October 1967, she married Darwin G. Matthews. She was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo and served on the Thurston Woods resident council.
Surviving are her husband, Darwin G. Matthews of Sturgis; two daughters, Charolette Matthews of Sturgis and Sherri Krogh of White Pigeon; two ons, Rodney (Vicki) Matthews of Sebring, Fla.; Eric Matthews of Sturgis; six grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace (Mary) Vanhook of Goshen, Ind., Heral (Diane) Vanhook of Plant City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael J. Matthews n 1995; one sister and two brothers.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Farrand Funeral Home of White Pigeon, where services ar at 8 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Kenneth Beverly of the Church of the True God of Wolcottville, Ind., officiating.
Cremation will follow. Memorial donations may be directed to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
