Mary Matianski, 58

Mary Grace Matianski, 58, of Sturgis, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

She was born Aug. 16, 1953, in Sturgis, a daughter of Jack and Betty (Notestine) Nichols. She had been a resident of the Sturgis and White Pigeon area all her life.

On April 25, 1983, she married Daniel S. Matianski is White Pigeon.

She was a graduate of White Pigeon High School in 1971. She was employed for 22 years as a secretary at Midwest Tool and Cutlery in Sturgis.

She was a member of White Pigeon Athletic Boosters, an avid White Pigeon sports fan and a member of White Pigeon Bowling League. She enjoyed camping and, most importantly, her family.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel S. Matianski of Sturgis; a daughter, Heather Jo (Troy) Andrews of White Pigeon; two sons, Frederick James (Kelly) Shafer of White Pigeon and Jason Lee (Kari) Shafer of Middlebury, Ind.; eight grandchildren; three stepchildren, Teresa (Brian) Caid of Edwardsburg, and Karen Kyle and Danny Matianski, both of Sturgis; eight stepgrandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; her mother, Betty (Robert) Grams of Sturgis; two sisters, Vicki (David) Atherton of White Pigeon and Cathy (Floyd) Marchand of Sturgis; a brother, Bobby (Karen) Nichols of White Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at White Pigeon Church of Christ, with the Revs. Barry Edds and Ken Miller officiating.
