Bedbugs On The Increase

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has issued a press release indicating a potential increase in reports of bedbugs.

The agency said bedbugs typically attach themselves to luggage, clothing or other items, and the means of transportation help them travel from a warmer climate into a colder host site.

Bedbugs are not known to carry diseases, but they can be a nuisance. The agency suggested people take precautions when they travel, including leaving luggage in a garage for a day or two upon returning from a trip. Bedbugs are not able to survive in cold weather for a lengthy period of time.

The agency urges people with questions to direct their inquiries to its staff member, Rebecca Burns.
