A former village council member has been appointed to serve on the Constantine Sewer Ad Hoc Committee.
Scott Chiddister, a past chairman of the committee, was put on the panel following a vote by members of the Constantine Village Council last week.
Chiddister’s addition to the committee, and his expertise as an engineer and former municipal official, could come in handy in helping the village deal with its sewer-related issues.
Due to work it was obligated to perform at its wastewater plant, the city of Three Rivers last summer was forced to pass on to Constantine a 55 percent rate increase for sewer-treatment services. The village is absorbing the increase but it may soon have to raise the rate it charges its residents to help offset the expense.
The village is in the midst of looking at other wastewater-treatment options, with Grand Rapids-based Fleis and VandenBrink aiding the community in its task.
