The city of Sturgis has announced that railroad work beginning next week on West Chicago Road will close a section of the city’s most heavily traveled east-west roadway.
The Michigan Department of Transportation will be conducting repairs on the railroad crossing starting Monday. The work will close U.S. 12 to thru traffic east of Jacob Street and west of Jefferson Street for the duration of construction.
Construction and closure of the road is expected to run through Friday. Additional time may be necessary based on weather conditions and construction progress.
A comprehensive detour route will be set up for thru traffic on U.S. 12. Designated detour routes are available through the city’s website, which is www.sturgis.mi.us.
U.S. 12 east of Jacob Street will be open to local business traffic during the project.
