Weekly Route To Battle Creek

The St. Joseph County Transportation Authority is starting a new, weekly route with service to and from the Battle Creek VA Medical Center at Fort Custer.

CTA executive director Steve Yorks said the inaugural trip takes place today and will continue every Wednesday. The round-trip cost is $20 and the Three Rivers-based agency needs 48 hours advance notice to coordinate pickups prior to the trip to Battle Creek.

Yorks said the service will initially be just one day a week but might increase to twice-a-week if its demand grows.

The idea of making transportation available to the Battle Creek facility has been discussed by CTA officials since 2010, Yorks said. He added that the major obstacles involved reaching an agreement to the satisfaction of Battle Creek Transit and Battle Creek city officials.
