Forest L. Royer, age 91, of Kalamazoo, Michigan and a former resident of Sturgis passed away Monday evening January 30, 2012 at the Alamo Nursing Home in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He was born September 8, 1920 in Burr Oak, Michigan a son of the late D.B. and Winnie (Weaver) Royer.
Forest had lived most of his life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1938. He continued his education at Michigan State University where he studied Dairy Farm Operations and later became a dairy herdsman. Forest enjoyed sports and hunting.
He is survived by two daughters, Ann Marie (Don) Schaar of Glendale, Arizona and Mary Kathryn (Robert) Kline of Waddell, Arizona, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, Sisters-in-law, Barbara Royer of Sturgis and Lucille (Robert) Robinson of Mendon, brother-in-law, Melvin Swihart of Sturgis, special friends, the Hiles family, Vicksburg and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Joyce Rosine and Doris Swihart and five brothers, John Royer, Richard Royer, William Royer, Angelo Royer and Vaughn Royer.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A private memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery at a later date. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis will officiate.
