Floyd Templin, 99

Floyd Templin, age 99, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Friday morning, February 3, 2012 at his home.

He was born July 16, 1912 in Sturgis, Michigan a son of the late Louis L. and Clara (Smith) Templin.

Mr. Templin was a life long Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1931.

On August 5, 1936 he married Helen M. Lothamer in Warsaw, Indiana she died January 16, 1989. He later married Marie Olga Bandurske Kuehl. She died October 22, 2011.

Mr. Templin had owned and operated feed stores grain elevators in Southwest Michigan. He will be best remembered as the developer of Lake Templene in St. Joseph County. His favorite hobby was selling lots on the lake that he developed. He also enjoyed flowers, playing cards and he always had dogs throughout his life.

He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and the Three Rivers B.P.O. Elks Lodge. He was a long time seat holder on the Chicago Board of Trade Commodities Exchange.

He is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Kenneth) Schmitt of New Castle, Indiana, one son, Thomas (Lorena) Templin of Sturgis, nine grandchildren, Ted (Kelly) Schmitt, Karin Schmitt, Kathryn (Greg) Buck, Gretchen (George) Swapp, Emily (Mark) Lesh, Andrew Templin, Joseph Templin, Jonathan Templin and Daniel Templin, seven great grandchildren, Thomas Schmitt, Alexandra Buck, Kirstyn Buck, Gabrielle Buck, William Swapp, Charlotte Swapp and Emmett Lesh.

He was preceded in death by one son, Bill Templin and infant sister, Henrietta Templin.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Floyd Templin will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father James Lothamer, nephew of Mr. Templin will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
