Fire Department Says Use Caution

Area fire departments are urging residents to exercise caution with alternative sources of heat.

The warning comes as three fires in the past two weeks, including two last weekend, are believed to have started from alternative heat sources.

The most recent fire was reported Sunday night at a residence in the 10600 block of Hayman Road in Fabius Township. A chimney fire from a wood-burning stove is believed to have started the blaze.

The day before, a barn fire in the 61000 block of Krull Road in Fabius Township was believed to have started from a heat lamp.

On Feb. 4, a wood-burning stove started a fire at a residence in the 21000 block of Pinhook Drive in Mendon Township.
