Rick Santorum was the top vote-getter in St. Joseph County Tuesday.
The presidential primary election in Michigan, however, was claimed by Mitt Romney, who came in second place in St. Joseph County.
Unofficial results from County Clerk Pattie Bender’s office show Santorum earned more than 2,500 votes while Romney had more than 1,700. Barrack Obama, the only candidate listed on the Democrat ballot, captured 242 votes.
Bender said 5,520 of the county’s almost 43,000 registered voters participated in Tuesday’s primary, meaning nearly 13 percent of the county’s registered voters went to the voting booth.
Bender said all 24 precincts in the county were reported within 2 1/2 hours after polls closed.
In addition to claiming Michigan Tuesday, Romney also was victorious in Arizona’s primary election.
