It appears Mike King, owner of the Weenie Kings hot dog stand in Three Rivers, will have to find a new location to conduct business when his seasonal operation opens later this month.
King said he received last week a certified letter from members of the Three Rivers Library Board, who indicated that in January, they passed a resolution prohibiting business from being conducted in the library parking lot.
King has operated his push-cart business since 2007 from the library parking lot.
He said he has offers to operate from other area locations but he said he’d prefer to remain in the library parking lot, as it is in a highly visible spot along Michigan Avenue.
Commissioner Daryl Griffith said he is an avid supporter of Weenie Kings and he also reminded that the city commission has the right to appoint and dismiss members of the five-person library board.
King said he plans to attend Tuesday’s Three Rivers City Commission meeting and ask Mayor Tom Lowry and commissioners what recourse they may have in reversing the library board’s action.
