Joseph Tobon, 68

Joseph Albert Tobon, age 68, of Three Rivers completed his life’s work on Sunday March 18, 2012.

He was born in Cartago, Columbia on April 17, 1943 the son of Patricio and Beatriz (Marulanda) Tobon and attended high school and college in Columbia. It was there that he met his future wife, Nancy Young. They were married on Feb. 1, 1964 and resided in New York before moving to Mendon in 1965, and to Three Rivers in 1973. Joe worked at the Haas Corporation and later Lear in Mendon where he specialized in customer service and quality control.

Joseph was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he was an usher. He was honored to become a U.S Citizen in 1972 and was a former member of the Mendon Kiwanis Club. He coached Little League baseball and Rocket football, and became a Notre Dame sports fan. He enjoyed collecting Lionel Trains, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Joseph & Ann Marie Tobon of Hilliard, OH and Jimena & Randy Mason of Mishawaka, IN; five special grandchildren, Joseph and Maggie Tobon, Andrew, Mia, and Will Mason; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

Cremation has been conducted. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers and where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The memorial funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday March 22, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Three Rivers with Rev. Donald Potts and Deacon Bart Conner officiating. A private interment of ashes will take place later. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. An online register is available at www.efhchapel.com
