An Indiana man who was brought to the attention of police after a number of incidents March 17 was arraigned in court Friday.
St. Joseph County officials said Jerry Hillegas, 46, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and violation of a charitable solicitation.
Hillegas on March 17 confronted a woman at a downtown business and asked if she would contribute to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Police said three other incidents took place the same day, when Hillegas indicated an interest in buying cars from the women he approached.
Hillegas has prior offenses that include rape, public indecency and attempted confinement.
Sheriff’s officials said Hillegas remains in the county jail, with a cash surety bond of $10,000.
