Betty J. Wegner, age 78, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday evening, May 26, 2012, at Matthew 7:7 Limited in White Pigeon.
She was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Bronson, the only daughter of the late Victor and Delcie (Johnson) Ware.
Mrs. Wegner had resided in Sturgis for the past 50 years, coming from Colon, where she was a graduate of Colon High School with the class of 1952.
On Nov. 1, 1952, she married Kenneth Wegner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
She retired from Sturgis Public Schools following 27 years of dedicated employment as a school bus driver.
Mrs. Wegner was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and enjoyed camping, traveling, her pets, car rides and loved time spent at the family cabin in Dublin, Mich.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 59 years, Kenneth Wegner; a daughter, Susan Wegner of Three Rivers; a son, Randy (Suwanna) Wegner of Orange, Va., four grandchildren, Michelle (Richard) Hall, Suzanne Wegner, Yancey Wegner and Christopher Wegner; two brothers, Ray (Mary Lou) Ware and Richard (Delores) Ware, both of Sturgis; sister-in-law, Barbara Ware of Sturgis and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lyle Ware and two nieces.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Betty J. Wegner will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate. Private burial of the ashes will take place at a later date.
