L. Irene Mosser, age 96, of Colon, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, surrounded by her family, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
Irene was born Feb. 4, 1916, in Liberty Mills, a daughter of the late Howard and Jenny (Miller) Miller.
Irene married Leo Masters in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1950. She later married Carl C. Mosser on Nov. 27, 1965, in Fremont, Ind. He preceded her in death June 7, 1977.
Early in life, Irene had worked for the former Lamb Knit Company in Colon. She later worked for Shaw in Coldwater, retiring in 1978.
Irene was a member of Crossroads Bible Church in Sherwood. She enjoyed writing poetry, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and loved her flowers, friends and caring for others.
She is survived by five daughters, Helen (Terrance) LaVoy of San Antonio, Fla., Barbara Ware of Sturgis, Beverly (Jerald) Boals of Colon, Thelma (George) Goss of Sturgis and Joyce (Darrel) Wilson of Plant City, Fla.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Sandy (Floy) Hetzel of Sturgis; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Irene; four brothers, Lawrence, Roy, Elon and Everett Miller; a son-in-law, Lyle Ware; and a stepson, Gene Mosser.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of L. Irene Mosser will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Rodger Moyer of Sturgis Evangelical Church and Pastor Trent Hammond of Crossroads Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery in Athens.
If desired, the family suggest memorials be made in memory if Irene to either Thurston Wood Village, Sturgis Evangelical Church or the Sherwood Crossroads Bible Church. Envelopes re available at the funeral home.
