Generate Sturgis has winners

The second “Generate Sturgis” event, where residents with unique and practical business ideas pitch their concepts to city officials, drew four contestants last week.

After hearing each idea, judges award first- and second-place cash winnings.

Marcia Drake received $1,250 for her concept of a business that makes gift baskets comprised of items purchased locally. Drake told judges that items in the basket would include information about each business from which it was purchased.

A $750 second-place cash award was issued to Paul Rooyakkers. His concept centered on a perishable bulk food store with a focus on health food.

The final two Generate Sturgis presentations will be Aug. 23 and Nov. 1. Cash prizes will be at stake.
