Jeannette Jacobs, 86

Jeannette Eileen Jacobs, 86, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully Monday, July 2, 2012 at Riverview Manor. Jeannette was born on Oct. 12, 1925 in Three Rivers the daughter of Clifford Hoyt Baker and Ruby Fern (Myers) Baker.

Jeannette graduated from Three Rivers High School and pursued a nursing degree at Borgess Nursing School. During that time she was united in marriage to the late Donald Eugene Jacobs. In 1946 they moved their family to Houghton to open a Dairy Queen store. Jeannette returned to nursing school at the age of 40 where she attended Northern Michigan University and graduated top of her class with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. After her family was grown, Jeannette and her husband moved to Durham, N.C. where she graduated from Duke University with a Masters degree in nursing. Jeannette then taught nursing at both St. Joseph Hospital in Hancock and Duke University. Together with her husband they returned to Three Rivers and settled into a leisure lifestyle of traveling in their R.V., seeing all but three of the 50 states.

Jeannette was active with her children in sewing, quilting, cooking and enjoyed participating in church activities. Every summer the family also attended Gitche Gumee Bible Camp on Lake Superior making many fond memories. Jeannette was very proud of her nursing accomplishments and held those very close to her heart.

Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Donald Jacobs, in 2006; son, Bradley Jacobs; one sister; and one brother.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory daughters, Ann Elizabeth (Dennis) Waldron of Seattle, Wash. and Rebecca Ann (Gene) Huntoon of Elkton, Md.; sister, Janet Sherman of Newberry, Fla.; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A private burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.
