Evelyn May Coleman, age 94, of Freeport, and a former resident of Sturgis and Coldwater, passed away Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012, at her home.
She was born March 7, 1918, in Steuben County, Ind., a daughter of the late Ancil Garfield and Meada (Fisher) Murden.
On Nov. 16, 1946, she married Paul R. “Mike” Coleman in Angola, Ind. He died April 19, 1987.
Evelyn retired from Ross Laboratories in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Mike’s Lawnmower and Repair in Sturgis and Coldwater.
She was a member of Sturgis Church of Christ.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Judy Perkins of Lansing; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Coleman of Freeport; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Kenneth R. Coleman; a grandson; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and two brothers.
The family will receive friends from moon-12:45 p.m. Saturday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, where funeral services celebrating the life of Evelyn Coleman will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Orland, Ind.
