M. Howard Sprowl, age 85, of Sturgis, passed away early
Saturday morning February 28, 2009 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born April 15, 1923 in Sturgis, Michigan a son to the late
Charles D. and Elsie M. (Bowser) Sprowl.
Howard had resided in Sturgis his whole life with the exception of the
time he was in the military.
On May 4, 1944 he married Lorraine I. Nelson in Tampa, Florida.
Howard was a truck driver by trade and following several years of
employment with Central Transport he retired in 1983. Prior to joining
Central Transport he had driven for Days Transfer and Brady Motor Freight.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Air Force earning the rank
of Staff Sergeant. Howard was a member of the Eagles Lodge #1314 and he
enjoyed playing golf, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lorraine, One Daughter;
Maxine (Robert) Gravit of Sturgis, Three Sons; Charles H. “Chuck” (Ruth
Ann) Sprowl of Sturgis, Frank L. (Cindy) Sprowl of Sturgis and Jack L.
Sprowl of Sturgis, Four Grandchildren; Cassie Bibb, Jason (Dannielle)
Gravit, Jensen Sprowl and Lauren Sprowl, Three Great Grandchildren,
McKenna Bibb, Brecklyn Bibb and Annika Bibb and several nieces and
nephews.
His parents and one brother; Charles E. Sprowl preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M.
Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Howard
Sprowl will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The
Rev. John Shoup of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and Chaplin Glenn
Russell of Thurston Woods Village will officiate. A graveside committal
will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where the U.S.
Air Force Honor Guard will conduct the flag presentation.
