Roy Gump, 68

Roy E. Gump, 68, of Bronson, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

The service for Roy will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Paul Metzger and the Rev. Marshall Metzger officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.

Roy was born Aug. 22, 1943, in Noble Township to Clarence and Bernice (Metzger) Gump. He had worked as a machine operator at Midwest Tool and Cuttery in Sturgis for 25 years, retiring in 1997.

Mr. Gump was an honorary member of the Bronson American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, raising rabbits and working on the family farm, which he had done for many years. Roy enjoyed people, he loved to drive around the neighborhood, check on crops and visit with friends. He had a special place in his heart for children and they loved him back as well.

Roy is survived by his mother, Bernice Gump, of LaGrange, Ind.; his brothers Harold Dean “Andy” (Patricia) Gump Sr. of Bronson, Terry “Butch” (Jan Carlson) Gump of Sturgis and Gary “Joe” (Mary Anne Nieman) Gump of Burr Oak; his sister Betty (Don) McQuiston of Meadville, Pa.; brothers-in-law Harley Bercaw of Sturgis and George S. (Dee) Meek of Burr Oak; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; brothers Robert and Ed Gump; sisters Verda Meek and Eunice Bercaw; sisters-in-law Beatrice “Marie” Gump, Susie Gump and Cheryl Gump; his former wife, Mary Deal; and his very special friend Geraldine (Waite) Wiser.
