Christina Marie Bart, 67, of Sturgis, was welcomed into the kingdom of God to join her family that have gone before her Monday morning, Aug. 6, 2012, at I.U. Health Hospital in Goshen, Ind.
She was born Jan. 9, 1945, in Grand Haven, a daughter of the late Irving and Monica (Stevens) Carter.
Mrs. Bart resided in Sturgis since 1964, coming from Grand Rapids. On Sept. 12, 1964, she married Gordon Bart in Grand Rapids.
Chris was a professional hairdresser for 40 years and owned and operated Chris’s Hairport in Sturgis for 30 years.
She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis, the Red Hat Society and an active member of the Sturgis Eagles Auxiliary #1314, where she was instrumental in the annual Putting on the Hits Show. She enjoyed playing golf, stoning and loved time spent with her family and friends at the family home on Omena Lake.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Gordon, two sons, Bruce (his fiancée Cora Davis) Bart of Sturgis, Damon Bart of Grand Rapids; a daughter, Stacy (Matthew) Lanihan of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Brandon Bart, Brooke Bart, Cassandra Bart, Jozi Bart and Jenna Bart; two brothers, Irving (Geneva) Carter of Webberville and Larry (Shirley) Carter of Portland; her adopted family; mother, Sally (Bernie) Grassmid of Fremont; step-mother, Jane Greenman of Kentwood; five sisters, Chris Robinson of Grant, Diane (Keith) Theis of Pentwater, Cheryl (Ty) Benson of White Cloud, Yvonne (Kevin) Homrich of Newaygo and Virginia (Chuck) Bernia of White Cloud; a brother, Scott Greenman of North Pole, Alaska and many nieces and nephews; and by so many friends there would not be enough ink to list them by name.
She was preceded in death by her parents; adopted father, Robert Greenman; four sisters, Janet Butler, Maizie Javour, Sharon Taylor and Carol Duimstra; and three brothers, Chuck Carter; and twin brothers, Bruce Carter and Bryan Carter.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. The funeral Mass celebrating the life of Christina Marie Bart will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz will officiate. In accordance with her wishes cremation will follow the Mass. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
