Jim Robinson, 76

James Robert “Jim” Robinson, 76, of rural Three Rivers, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Chicago, Ill. on Oct. 5, 1935 the son of Ernest and Jessie (Hunter) Robinson. Jim was a graduate of Chicago Vocational School, and worked as a sheet metal worker in Chicago. After moving to Michigan he worked at Dayco Rubber before opening his own clothing business known as Mr. J’s Boutique in Three Rivers.

Jim was married to Celestine Matthews in Indiana on March 8, 1961. She survives along with three children, Victor Robinson of Kalamazoo, Ricky Robinson of Loveland, Colo. and Carolyn (Wayne) Archer of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Juanita Gregory of Mendon, Gloria Artley of Three Rivers and Theresa Parker of Elkhart, Ind.; two brothers, Carl (Zenobia) Robinson of Three Rivers and Bill Robinson of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine Ivy; and three brothers, Frank, Ernest, and William Robinson.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by burial in Mendon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
