Increase for dog licenses

Members of the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday agreed to accept a revised fee for dog licenses starting in November.

Tom Miller, St. Joseph County animal control director, said several years have passed since the county last raised license fees.

The cost of a license for spayed or neutered dogs will double to $10, while the cost of a license for dogs not spayed or neutered will increase from $15 to $20.

In a memo to commissioners, Miller said the impending fee increases bring St. Joseph County more in line with the costs imposed by other counties in Southwest Michigan.
