Larry Hackenberg, 69

Larry Owren Hackenberg, 69, of Three Rivers, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2012 at Borgess Medical Center following a prolonged illness.

He was born September 18, 1942, in Schoolcraft, Michigan, the only child to Owren and Doris (Granger) Hackenberg. Larry, a 1960 graduate of Three Rivers High School, proudly served his country in the Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1968. He married Judith (Schrader) Hackenberg, on June 21, 1969.

A life-long resident of Three Rivers, he worked at Green Light Auto Parts for 25 years, before retiring from Armstrong International after 16 years of service. However, lacking the ability to relax and do nothing, he worked part-time at Jim Vetter Chevrolet detailing cars.

Larry was an avid NASCAR fan and well known for his quick wit and sense of humor. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, though. He attended a number of their school functions and loved to watch their Little League games.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law (Lloyd and Maxine [Favorite] Schrader), and several aunts and uncles.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, wife Judith (Schrader) Hackenberg; daughters Lisa (Robert) Phillips and Michelle (Christopher) McGee; son Aaron (Jennifer) Hackenberg; grandsons Brannon (Lisa) Phillips, Noah (Michelle) Miller, and Ty (Aaron) Hackenberg; granddaughter Riley (Michelle) McGee, and his best friend Ralph (Janet) Frederick.

A memorial service will be held at Hohner Funeral Home, on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:00pm.

The family requests that donations be made in Larry’s memory to the Three Rivers Community Schools, for benefit of the grandchildren.
