Harold Rice, 82

Harold D. Rice, age 82 of Three Rivers, died Tuesday Oct. 16, 2012 at Kairo’s Dwelling Hospice Home in Kalamazoo. He was born in Bronson, MI on April 2, 1930 the son of Ora and Erma (Fair) Rice, and attended school in Bronson. He was married to Margaret Cholometes in St. Joseph Catholic Church in White Pigeon on Feb. 9, 1952. They have resided in the Three Rivers for the past 60 years. Harold was employed at G & A Truck Lines for 32 years and later for the St. Joseph County Road Commission for 10 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Three Rivers Eagles. He enjoyed travels to Florida and time at his Long Lake cottage.

Harold is survived by his wife, Margaret; 8 children, Mike Rice of Bath, MI, Kathy Raifsnider of Portage, Margaret (Doug) Lammon of White Pigeon, Charlie (Jennifer) Rice of Mason, MI, Ted Rice, Joe (Cathy) Rice, Tom (Donna) Rice, and Tim (Toni) Rice all of Three Rivers; 20 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Donna Atkinson of Three Rivers, Marie (Frank) Tripp of Coldwater, and Bernetta Fox of Tucson, AZ ; He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Leo Beery; and 2 sisters Laura Cattel and Vera Gilding.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Multi-Purpose Room at Immaculate Conception Church, and where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. The memorial funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Monday Oct. 22, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert Johansen officiating. Following a luncheon, interment of ashes will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in White Pigeon. Memorials may be directed to the church for masses, or to Kairo’s Dwelling Hospice Home. Arrangements were by the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel of Three Rivers.
