Gerald Sherman Barr, age 81, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Three Rivers Health in Three Rivers.
He was born in Sterling, Conn., a son to the late Earl and Ethel (Sherman) Barr.
On June 24, 1950, he married Lorraine Theresa Bedard in Danielson, Conn.
Gerald had been a resident of Sturgis since 1987, moving here from Connecticut. He had been employed as quality control manager for Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, Conn., and enjoyed square dancing, restoring furniture and going to garage sales. He also helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered for the Hospital Popcorn Guild.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Cheryl (Joseph) Atkas of Woodstock, Md., and Renee (Tom) Clock of Sturgis; two sons, Glen Barr of Bath, Maine, and Mark (Tracy) Barr of Elkhart, Ind.; four grandchildren, Meagan (Aaron) Barner, Nicholas Barr, Nathaniel Barr and Ashley Barr; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Adeline; a sister, Marion (Roland) Bedard of Sturgis; and two brothers, Earl and Harry Barr of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ethel Kettle.
According to his wishes, there will be no visitation or services, as cremation has taken place. The family suggests memorial donations in his memory be directed to Holy Angels Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
