Earl Stark, 64

Earl Eugene Stark, former Three Rivers Police Chief, age 64, of Three Rivers, MI., passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012 at Kairos Dwelling following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 15, 1948 in Fort Wayne, IN., the son of Jack Taylor and Ruby (Rasbaugh) Stark.

Mr. Stark has been a long time resident of this area. In 1972 he moved from Colon where he grew up to Three Rivers, MI. Earl served on the Three Rivers Police Department, where he attained the rank of Detective and then Chief of Police, before retiring after 33 years of service. Upon his retirement Earl, was elected as a City Commissioner for the 3rd District.

Mr. Stark served his country honorably during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy, EO2, Thirty Second-Naval Construction Regiment, and also the S.E.A.B.E.E. Construction Battalion, of which Earl was very proud. He was a life member of the Snyder-Lewis-Welty Post #454 , Fraternal Order of Police, and was very active during his tenure in F.O.P. Baseball. Earl loved to fish and work as a handyman as well as spend time with his sons, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Phillip Stark.

Mr. Stark leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family, wife Frances “Fran” (VanDeWeghe) Stark, of Three Rivers; two sons, Matthew (Rita) Stark, and their sons, Colton and Wyatt Stark, all of Three Rivers, and Adam (Nicole) Stark, and their children, Alli and Grant Stark, all of Centreville, MI.; one brother, John (Linda) Stark, of Sparta, MI.; and three sisters, Nancy Stark, of Mendon, Susan Freeland, of Sturgis, MI., and Roberta (David) Lamb, of Sherwood, MI.; as well as a special aunt, Margaret Stark, of Williamsburg, KY.

Per Mr. Starks request cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at the Riverside Church of Three Rivers, with Pastor Jerry Solis officiating.

Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, with Police and Military Honor’s under the auspices of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Dept., the Three Rivers Police Dept., and the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170.
