Michigan DNR deer check station

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will have a deer-check station set up 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting today at Crane Pond State Game Area, near Jones.

With the 15-day firearm season beginning today, Steve Chadwick, wildlife division supervisor for the Southwest Region, said with the exception of Thanksgiving day, the station will be manned for the four-hour period every weekday through Nov. 30. The check-in site will save area hunters from driving to the DNR office in Plainwell.

Crane Pond State Game Area is on the east side of M-40, just north of M-60, in Cass County.
