Lewis W. Brandt, 96, of Portage, and formerly of Colon, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 18, 2012, at Tender Care Nursing Home in Portage.
Lewis was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Colon, a son of Otto and Ruth (Darling) Brandt.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Colon, a World War II veteran and member of the American Legion and the NRA. An avid sportsman, upon his retirement from the Consolidated Rail Corporation, he was able to spend 32-plus years doing the things he enjoyed most in life: hunting and fishing.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin; two sisters, Louise and Pauline; his wife Wilma (Schweder) Brandt; and a stepson, Allen Knapp.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ethel (Knapp) Brandt; stepchildren Karen (Leonard) Jury, William (Pam) Knapp, Connie (Alan) Knapp, Dawn (Gregg) Johnson and Lynn (Ron) Broockman; a daughter, Barbara Fair; a son, Robert (Kathryn) Brandt; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon.
