Thirty-one rides were provided to New Year’s Eve revelers Monday and Tuesday by the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority, according to the agency’s director.
Steve Yorks said 12 rides were provided from the Three Rivers-based bus and 19 from the vehicle serving the east half of the county, including the Sturgis area.
The number of riders was slightly less than a year ago, when the free offer drew 36 takers. The record is 37 people, who took advantage of the program in its inaugural year, on the eve of 2009.
Rides were offered from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. to any residence in St. Joseph County. Funding for the annual offer was provided by the Three Rivers Elks Lodge 1248 and the In-Between restaurant and bar, east of White Pigeon.
