Vern Stroup, age 63, of Three Rivers, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013. He was born in Three Rivers on May 25, 1949 the son of Roland and Ethel M. (Carter) Stroup and has been a lifetime resident of Three Rivers. Vern was first married to Janice Arnold in 1970, and they were later divorced. He was married to Ethel Kay (Norton) Ballard in 2009, and Kay died in 2012. Vern had worked at Syndicate Systems, Essex Wire, Lasco, and at the South Main Shell. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Vern is survived by six children, Ethel (Steve) Eaton of Colon, Alisa (Thomas) Boodt of White Pigeon, Bradley (Karey Ann) Stroup, Vern “VJ” Stroup, Jr., Sarah Mosurak, and Angela Brooks all of Three Rivers; three step-children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Stroup and Roland “Punk” Stroup, Jr.; three sisters, Tootie Keckler, Virginia Stroup, and his twin sister, Fern Roberts; many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been conducted. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 2, 2013 at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by interment of ashes in Poe Cemetery near Jones. Memorials will be directed to the family.
