Lucille R. Griffith, age 90, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away late Saturday morning, Jan. 26, 2013, at Sturgis Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1922, in Rochester, New York, daughter of the late Archie and Alice (Tillman) Gibson.
Lucy resided in Sturgis since 1931 coming from Rochester, New York. On June 18, 1943 she married Warren Griffith in Rochester, New York. He died Dec. 14, 2008.
Lucy retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 34 years of dedicated employment. Following her retirement she worked as a nurse’s aide for Sturgis Home Health Care for 10 years. She also served as a crossing guard for the City of Sturgis for two years and her last place of employment was with G&H Industries in Centreville.
She was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and enjoyed cooking, traveling and crocheting.
She is survived by one son, David Griffith of Sturgis; one grandson, Dustin Griffith of Sturgis; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Griffith; two sisters, Alice Ann Montgomery of Tacoma, Wash., and Mary K. Gibson of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Robert Gibson and Archie Gibson.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass celebrating the life of Lucille R. Griffith will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father German Perez-Diaz will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
