James Phil Tank Sr., age 69, of Three Rivers, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at his home.
He was born July 6, 1943, in Marcellus, a son of Albert Ervin and Emily Elizabeth (Pocheki) Tank.
Mr. Tank graduated from Marcellus High School in 1961. As a young man, James worked with all of his family on the farm. He then began work at Dayco (Day International Company) now Flint Corporation before retiring in 2005.
Jim loved to be outdoors. He was an avid hunter, a member of the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association), and loved to cut wood for both family and friends. He never lost an opportunity to pass his knowledge along to his children and grandchildren, whom he spent most of his time with along with his sister, Jean, whom he was very close to and best friend, Roy.
Mr. Tank was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Gerry Tank, who passed in 2004; one brother, Harry Tank; and one sister, Bernice Mikel.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Dawn (Phil) Furney of Sturgis and Robin (Jeffery) Plomb of White Pigeon; two sons, James “Jim” (Amy) Tank Jr. of Sturgis and David (Shelly Bixler-Martin) Martin of Three Rivers; sister, Jean G. Ackley of Marcellus; five grandchildren, McKenzie and Alex Martin, Brandy Hilts, Devin Plomb, and Alexis Byers; great- granddaughter, Kaylie Hilts; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the Hohner Funeral Home.
