Marjorie Everson, age 99 of Mendon died Wednesday March 27, 2013 at the Birch Adult Foster Care Home in Leonidas. She was born in Mendon Township on July 29, 1913 the daughter of Lorin and Dora (Huckendubler) Dentler and was a lifetime resident of the Mendon area. Marjorie graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1932. She was married to Ernest “Buck” Everson on Dec. 24, 1935. Together they raised their family and operated a farm north of Mendon. Marjorie was the oldest member of the Mendon United Methodist Church, and the Grace Circle. She was a past member of the Mendon Grange and worked at many St. Joseph County Fairs, cooking under the grandstand and as a 4-H volunteer. She loved to cook for family and church functions.
Marjorie is survived by a daughter Joyce (David) Mannes of Climax; a son, Donald (Diane) Everson of Mendon; seven grandchildren, Christine (Charles) Yancey, Patricia (Craig) MacFarlane, Matt (Gina) Everson, James (Tracy) Mannes, Laurel (Donald) Balkema, Stephen (Sarah) Mannes, and Andrew (Meaghan) Mannes; twenty two great grandchildren, Jordan and Taylor Yancey, Dalton, Derek, Ashley, and Morgan MacFarlane, Blake, Erin, and Caden Everson, Alex, Anson, and Coryne Mannes, Michael, Joshua, Nichole, and Melissa Balkema, Ethan, Grant, Blake, and Vince Mannes, Asher and Julianna Mannes; sister in law, Doris Everson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; two brothers, Loren and Carl Dentler; and her best friend, Genevieve McCain.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday March 30, 2013 at the Mendon United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with Marjorie’s grandson, Andrew Mannes officiating. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery followed by a reception back at the church.
