Irmgard Klara Schmidt, age 80, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL died Thursday April 18, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. She was born in Gross-Koris, Germany on Oct. 13, 1932 the daughter of Erich and Klara (Gedeon) Schmidt. She emigrated to the United States in 1951, and for a time lived in Mendon. She later resided in Chicago and New York before settling in Ft. Lauderdale. Irmgard had worked at J.C. Penney, and for many years with Jordan-Marsh Department Stores. She enjoyed travel and had taken several cruises. She especially enjoyed returning to Mendon and boating on the St. Joseph River.
Irmgard is survived by two sisters, Margaret (Werner) Faas of Plainfield, IL and Betty (Richard) Clark of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a sister in law, Barbara Schmidt of Mendon; and two nephews, John Schmidt of Lewisville, TX and Werrner Schmidt of Ft. Wayne, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gustav Schmidt; and most recently by brother, Karl Schmidt.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday April 23, 2013 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon with Rev. David Grimm, Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Colon officiating.
