Dick Carter, 74

Richard D. (Dick) Carter, age 74, of Constantine, passed away Saturday, April 27th, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in a farmhouse in Cass County on January 31, 1939, a son of Lazelle and Grace (Kantz) Carter. Dick graduated from Constantine High School in 1957 and served in the US Air Force for four years. On May 28, 1960 he married Rosemary Young at Sturgis United Methodist Church.

Dick completed his tool and die apprenticeship at Excel in Elkhart, and worked at Amstrong Machine Works in Three Rivers, retiring on June 1, 2004. He also worked at a musical instrument factory in Elkhart, owned Dick’s Custom Painting during the 60’s and 70’s and operated Dick Carter Photography since 1985. Dick had been a fixture at most Constantine Athletic events and area race tracks, as well as many graduations and weddings. He was a street rod enthusiast and was a member of the National Street Rod Association, Vintage Street Rod Association, and Good Guys Rod & Custom Association.

Surviving are his wife Rosemary Carter, Constantine, daughter Robyn (Karl) Hagerman of Petersburg, AK, son Randal (Kathy) Carter of Caledonia, grandchildren Ryan Carter, Katrina Carter, Kyle Hagerman, Tucker Hagerman and Tatum Hagerman, brother Robert (Marsha) Carter, Crystal Lake, IL and their children Jason Carter and Jill Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious Services will be held at Constantine United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Scott Manning officiating. Interment will be in the Constantine Township Cemetery.
