Deodon Richard “Cy” Curtis, age 83, of Three Rivers died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Valparaiso, IN on May 5, 1930 the son of Howard and Nora (Olds) Curtis. He grew up in the Mottville-Sturgis area and attended White Pigeon Schools. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was then married to Elsie Anne Pritchard on Sep. 12, 1959 in Three Rivers.
Richard had worked first for Weyerhauser in Middlebury, IN, then for many years at Dayco Rubber in Three Rivers, and retired from Ameritech in Sturgis. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Three Rivers. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Richard enjoyed swimming and water skiing, skating, bowling, reading, and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by five children, Keith Curtis of Goshen, IN, Sheila Burnau of Three Rivers, Daniel Curtis of Cadillac, Julie Millage of Ft. Wayne, and James Curtis of Three Rivers; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Curtis of Elkhart; a sister, Rosanne of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dewey Curtis; and his wife, Elsie in 2002.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday May 18, 2013 in Mottville Cemetery with military rites provided by Hice-Shutes American Legion Post #170. Memorials will be directed to the family.
