Drug-related arrest of man

Smoke emitting from inside a garbage bag led to drug-related charges against a Colon Township man Tuesday.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department earlier in the day acted on a citizen’s tip regarding a suspicious bag of what appeared to be trash alongside Decker Road in Colon Township.

The St. Joseph County Area Narcotics squad was called to the scene and correctly suspected the debris included waste from a methamphetamine lab. As investigators sorted through the bag of trash, they found evidence that led to the address of the man who was subsequently arrested.

The resident, whose name and age were not included in a department media release, was arrested at his residence. Charges include operating and maintaining a meth lab, possession of meth, possession of marijuana and maintaining a drug house, according to sheriff’s deputies.
