Steven E. Reed, 94, of Battle Creek, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at The Laurels of Bedford.
Steve was born on Sept. 30, 1918, in Lucedale, Miss. Steve was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a cook in charge of the officer’s mess and was discharged as a staff sergeant. He served the remainder of his 30-year career with the Army National Guard.
Steve was later employed in manufacturing in the Sturgis area. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, camping and watching the Detroit Tigers. Steve was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose, Elks and Eagles lodges.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Virginia Crowl. Steve is survived by a daughter, Marsha (Freeman) Thomas of Battle Creek and stepdaughter, Lois (Donald) Lampe of Sturgis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Diana (Steven) Munn, David (Susan) Lampe, Darcy (Jon) Hill, Chad and Cheryl Reed and Chris Hebner; great-grandchildren Jeffrey and Daniel Herman, Alexandra and Jacob Hill, Breana (Robert) Leins and Nathan (Elena) Hebner; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded by a son, Steven L. Reed; and a brother, Oscar Reed.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
