Lillian Mary Phillip, age 98, of Three Rivers, died Sunday Aug. 25, 2013 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born in Chicago, IL on April 26, 1915 the daughter of Joseph and Teresa (Hattan) Vicha and attended schools in Chicago. She was married to Peter S. Phillip on May 20, 1940 in Chicago. The family later moved to Allegan, and has resided in Three Rivers since the mid ’50s.
Lillian was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Daughters of Mary. While in Chicago, she worked for Mayor Daley’s office. She was a homemaker who also worked briefly at Newberry’s Department Store and Continental Can Co. in Three Rivers. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and shopping at garage sales.
Lillian is survived by seven children, Dorothy (Kelly) Riordan of Bellevue, WA, Bernadette Mihills of Three Rivers, Peter (Diane) Phillip of Mentone, AL, Dr. William (Terri) Phillip of Woodenville, WA, Margaret (Carl) Willm of Festus, MO, George (Rita) Phillip of Mendon, and James (Sandy) Phillip of Spokane, WA; a daughter in law, Jean Phillip of Three Rivers; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter in 1972; 2 children, Joseph Phillip and Mary Fetz; 3 brothers; and a sister.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Eickhoff Farrand Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers and where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday The funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday Aug. 29, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Mathew Manalel officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials will be directed to the Daughters of Mary at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
