James L. “Jim” Kulp, 76, of White Pigeon, passed away from a brief illness on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at 3:50 p.m. at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 21, 1936 in Mottville Township to the late Russell and Irene (Tavenier) Kulp. On March 3, 1979, he married Barbara M. (Kronewitter) Johnson in Mottville. She survives at home.
He is also survived by a daughter, Vickie (Vince) Schroen of White Pigeon; sons Ronnie (Delores), Chuck and Robert Kulp, all of Constantine, and Edward “Ed” Johnson of White Pigeon; a sister, Maxine (Russell) Carter of Park Rapids, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
No immediate services have been planned. In accordance with the family’s wishes, Jim is to be cremated and will be buried at a later date at Mottville Township Cemetery in Mottville. Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Jim was sexton and gravedigger for White Pigeon and Mottville Township Cemeteries for more than 40 years and was a proud member of the White Pigeon “Liar’s Club,” which met regularly at the local McDonald’s restaurant. He will be best remembered for his hard work, faithfulness to his family and his sense of humor.
