Everett Lee “Tuffy” Barnes of College Park, Lake Wales, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at The Groves Center in Lake Wales after a battle with cancer.
Everett was born Aug. 8, 1942 in Manila, Ark., to the late Charles Pankney and Bertha Leola Bell (Carnell) Barnes. A former resident of Sturgis, he had worked at Jack’s Auto Service for more than 20 years. He was a retired truck driver.
Everett was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
He loved to fish, watch football, golf and NASCAR and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Nancy Lee Barnes, of Lake Wales; sons Thomas Lee Barnes of Three Rivers, Timothy Lynn and wife Megan Barnes of Sturgis; brothers Vernon Barnes, Lynn and wife Mildred Barnes, Jerry Barnes, Roy Barnes and Allen and wife Silke Herrod, all of Lake Wales.
Everett was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Belle Stewart and Joyce Rice; and a brother, Charles Barnes.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, with the Rev. Scott Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at the Lake Wales Cemetery.
