James E. Brennan, M.D., of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Friday afternoon, August 30, 2013 at his home.
He was born October 11, 1954 in Kalamazoo, Michigan son of Donald and Joan (Van’t Roer) Brennan.
Dr. Brennan resided in Sturgis since 1990 coming from Kalamazoo.
On May 25, 1974 he married Becky Johnson in Corbin, Kentucky.
Coming to Sturgis in 1990 he took over the medical practice of Dr. Robert Evans. He continued the practice until 2003. His last medical work was with the Visiting Physicians Association in Kalamazoo. A position he held until health issues forced his retirement. For several years he was the acting Medical Director for Hospice of Sturgis.
He was an active dedicated member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. On September 10, 2011 at St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo he was conferred the Ministry of Acolyte by Bishop Paul Bradley.
On May 13, 1984 Dr. Brennan graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He was a talented artist and enjoyed pottery work, downhill skiing and also had a true talent and love of theater.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 39 years, Becky; one son: Matthew (Casey) Brennan of Sturgis; one daughter: Elizabeth Brennan of Sturgis; two grandsons: Daniel and Liam Brennan; his mother: Joan Brennan of Kentucky; two sisters: Deb Neil and Mary Brennan both of Kentucky; two brothers: Ton (Cathy) Brennan of Kansas and Dr. Jerry (Jeanne) Brennan of Muskegon and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Dr. James E. Brennan will be led at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. Bishop Paul Bradley will officiate. In accordance with Dr. Brennan’s wishes cremation will follow the Mass.
