30th Sturgis Toy Run successful

More than 400 motorcycles were part of Saturday’s 30th Sturgis Toy Run procession.

Organizers of the annual event said good weather and the occasion of the Toy Run’s milestone contributed to a strong crowd of more than 2,000 people attending the Toy Run after-party at the event’s Kelly Road location in Burr Oak Township.

Toy Run Board President Pat Linnan  said the ride took 90 minutes and covered about 50 miles. All participants were required to donate a new toy or game, and $20, which will go toward Christmas presents for children whose families are down on their luck, Linnan said.

The ride was shorter this year due to the route not coming through Three Rivers. Toy Run officials said they hope to work with Three Rivers Police next year and include the city in the procession.
