Turner Powell, 75

Turner T. Powell Jr., age 75, of White Pigeon, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at home.

He was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Hartford, a son of the late Turner T. and Hattie (Poplin) Powell.

Turner had been a resident of White Pigeon since 2004 and he resided with his caregiver and adopted mother, Stella Powell, since 1968.

He worked at ARCH Workshop/St. Joseph County Co-op and attended Adapt. He enjoyed singing in the Angel Choir, gardening, and fishing.

Surviving are a brother, Frank Powell; a sister, Patsy; several nieces and nephews, including Ronnie Powell and Kenneth Goachee; caregiver and loving adopted mother, Stella Powell; guardians and caregivers; and adopted aunt and uncle, Herb and Ruby Wells.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Donald; and three sisters, Waydel Haines, Joyce and Irene.

The family will receive friends and relatives from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, at Hackman Family Funeral Home – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.

Services celebrating the life of Turner T. Powell Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry Nelson, 7th Day Adventist Church, officiating.

Graveside services and interment will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
