Barbara June Sobie, age 73, of Coldwater, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at The Laurels of Coldwater.
She was born June 4, 1940, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Marion and Cecilia (Harmon) Lawniczak.
Barbara graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1958. She had resided in the Coldwater and Sturgis area all her life, working as a hostess and waitress at many restaurants and clubs, including Washington Café, which was owned by her parents; Charlies II,; and the Sturgis Moose and Eagles lodges. She enjoyed the beauty of flowers and enjoyed caring for outdoor plants.
Surviving are children Edward Sobie Jr. of Albion, James Sobie of Coldwater, Robert J. (Connie) Sobie of Olivet, Michael (Pamla) Sobie of Bronson and Debra A. (Ted) Gigowski of Coldwater; grandchildren Leer Sobie, Jamie Sobie, Ashley Sobie, Amber Gunder, Michael Sobie, Joshua Sobie, Gabrielle Sobie, Gage Sobie, Jessy Gigowski and Heather Gigowski; a brother, Marion (June) Lawniczak of Arizona City, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Ron Lawniczak.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends and relatives for a time of fellowship from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Hackman Family Funeral Home — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. A graveside service and interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
