Jayanti Patel, 65

Jayanti M. Patel, age 65, of Sturgis, Michigan passed away late Tuesday evening September 17, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He was born December 15, 1947 in Maniyoi, India son of the late Mavjibhai and Jethiben (Patel) Patel.

Mr. Patel resided in Sturgis since 1990 coming from Chicago, Illinois.

On March 27, 1981 he married Uma J. Kotecha in Rajkot, India.

He owned and operated the Subway restaurant at the corner of Congress St. and Centerville Rd., the Wood Motel and for two years Great Lakes Chocolate and Coffee Company all in Sturgis.

He was a member of the Hindu Temple of Michiana in South Bend, Indiana, the Eagles Lodge # 1314, Loyal Order of Moose and Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW Men’s Auxiliary.

He is survived by his wife; one son: Manan (Leigha) Patel of Sturgis; one daughter: Purvi Patel of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, two brothers; head of family: Davendra Patel of South Bend, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.

The family will receive friends from Noon – 5:00 P.M. today, Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. According to family wishes cremation will follow the visitation Thursday evening in Bronson, Michigan.

The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Patel’s memory consider the Hindu Temple of Michiana, 19637 Dubois Ave., South Bend, IN 46637.
