Charlene M. Clementz, age 82, of Constantine, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born October 24, 1930 in Three Rivers, a daughter of Harry and Mary (Stubig) Hamilton. Char graduated from Constantine High School in 1949 where she had been a band member. Following graduation she went to South Bend College of Commerce for a Secretarial Certificate. On January 27, 1951 she married Edward G. Clementz at Messiah Lutheran Church in Constantine. They moved to their dream home in 1961, where they still reside.
Char worked at Pennant during high school and following college she worked for Conn Manufacturing in Elkhart, Continental Can in Three Rivers, Owens-Illinois in Constantine, Messiah Lutheran Church, Allen Realty, and Avon Sales. Char was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was president for two terms. She was an avid book reader. She also enjoyed crochet, making many afghans and sweaters. Char loved to travel dream vacations to Hawaii and took many trips to Las Vegas and Wickenburg, also camping at many places across the country.
Surviving Char are her husband Edward Clementz, Constantine, children LouAnn (Doug) Pippenger, Las Vegas, NV, Douglas Clementz, Wickenburg, AZ, grandchildren Joshua Rogers, Battle Creek, Elizabeth (J.R.) Brink, Las Vegas, John (Shawn) Pippenger, Coldwater, Kristal (James) Jourdan, Bronson, 11 great grandchildren, ister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather John Berkey, brother Dean Hamilton, sister Ruth Spurlock, and grandson Matthew Rogers.
Relatives and friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious Services will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Schuen officiating. Interment will be in Constantine Cemetery.
