Post Office starting promotion

The Centreville Post Office is staging a promotion starting Oct. 1 to tie in with the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The month-long “Pink at the Post Office” event will take place to promote the sale of the Breast Cancer semipostal stamp. The Centreville Post Office is one of several hundred post offices in the Greater Michigan District participating in the event, Centreville Postmaster Wendy Lou Fisher said.

Fisher, who indicated post office personnel will wear pink during the month, said few things reach as many Americans daily as the U.S. Mail. As a result, the Breast Cancer semipostal postage stamp provides an opportunity to raise money and awareness in support of important social issues, Fisher added.

Seventy percent of the net amount raised from the sale of the stamp goes to the National Institutes of Health and 30 percent goes to the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense.
