Robert Lee Alburtus, 78, of Centreville, passed away at 7:28 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at his home.
He was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Flint to Charles and Bertha (Weber) Alburtus.
On July 23, 1955, he married Janet Johns. On Jan. 15, 1983, he married Shirley A. Carlin in Three Rivers. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Centreville; four children, Wendy (Gary) Jones of Berea, Ohio, Randy Alburtus and Cindy (Thomas) Lonitro, both of Brook Park, Ohio, Kandy Alburtus of Cleveland; two stepchildren, LouAnn (Lee) Brown of Sturgis and Jeffrey (Dawn) Hecht of Centreville; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Joe) Smelko of Brunswick, Ohio; and his beloved dog, Char.
Bob graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, Ohio and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, was a lifetime member of the DAV in Sturgis, was chairman of the retirees of UAW Local 2093 and was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Three Rivers. Bob worked at the GM Chevy plant in Cleveland and retired from the GM Hydromatic Plant in Three Rivers.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
